We are a registered charity no 271937 – Registered as NATIONAL CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE ON SWIMMING – PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
The National Co-ordinating Committee – Swimming for Disabled People was first established in 1974 by the Sports Council.
It is now an independent organisation with a charitable constitution. Its purpose is to promote and support swimming as a beneficial activity for disabled people. It does this by provide a consultative forum and uses the expertise of its members to comment, lobby, promote good practice and where appropriate, coordinate the work of member organisations.
Where it sees a lack of suitable provision or strategic opportunity it publishes or provides.
Along with nationally respected individuals its committee consists of senior representatives from national organisations which recognise the importance of swimming for disabled people, either as their principal objective or as an integral part of their work. Specifically, as a committee we focus on those with a more profound disability, who may not easily “fit” within existing mainstream provision and aim to enable national organisations to appropriately support those individuals that may need the most help but who benefit the most from access to swimming.
